History of the Castle Ohle and village OHLE

The Castle was situated between the Mountain Sundern and the river Lenne, above today's village of Ohle.
The Ohle Castle was also named "Huehnenburg" which means Giant castle.
On excavation some 70 to 80 years ago old wall pieces have been found and preserved. The castle was built around 750 A.D. 500 years later, about 1200 the knights of Ohle who were rich people owned 2 castles and many farms.
The first known Ohle, Wilhelmus von Ohle, was mentioned around 1190 A.D.
The settlement Ohle has been a constituent of the ministry Neuenrode since 1350. This union lasted for about 500 years. In 1890, through development, the management was taken over by Plettenberg. Today the village Ohle is a part of Plettenberg
